If
you make these for a gift for a special little girl, make
2 so that she can give one to her girlfriend. These
bracelets also make a great party favor.
Basic Pattern
The basic idea is to knit a tube that the hand can go
through, but be tight on the wrist. The
good thing is that knit stretches, so you can make it the
same size as the wrist.
Before
knitting, you need to know the circumference of the wrist & the width or height you want for the bracelet. The
height could be 4 1/2" to 1/2". Then
you need to plan the bracelet. Do
you want to knit it from the hand to the top of the bracelet? Or
do you want to knit it following the circumference of the
cuff? We made
ours both ways. It
really depends on how you want the stripes to look.
Knit From Hand to Top of Bracelet
CO the circumference of the wrist. You
don't have to make a swatch, make an educated guess. If
you are using a yarn that normally gets 8 st to the inch,
then CO 8 X "circumference of wrist". Knit
to top of bracelet adding stripes or other designs. BO.
Knit Following the Circumference of the
Wrist
CO the width or height of the bracelet. You
don't have to make a swatch, make an educated guess. If
you are using a yarn that normally gets 8 st to the inch,
then CO 8 X "the height of the bracelet". Knit
the circumference of the wrist adding stripes or other designs. BO.
Finishing
Sew Seam. Hide yarn ends.
Design Ideas
Beads are
always fun for girls. Don't
like the traditional
beading technique because it involves
too much time or maybe you can find
bead with a big enough hole. Try
our E
Wrap Beading technique. It's
so easy, fast to do, and you can use
any bead that you can stick a needle
through.
Stripes are
easy to do, and you can use up lots of scrap yarn. Combine
crazy colors (maybe some you don't even like). Add
a bit of sparkle by using a lurex yarn for a few stripes. Stripes
can be knitted in, or make a crochet cast on.
Other Stitches will
work too like garter, lace or tuck. Maybe
try something that is new for you. Then
it's a learning project too.
Fairisle border
designs or a small motif is another idea.
Embroidery can
another special touch.
