Looking for a new way to display
your photos or a beautiful card you received. This is a
simple idea that easy & quick to make. It's perfect
for using odds & ends.
What you need
1 frame - this is a clip frame
1 or 2 pictures for the frame - you can use as many as the frame will hold.
piece of knit that is larger than the frame
Making the knit for the mat
Choose the yarn you want to use & the
stitch pattern. Any yarn or stitch will work. It's all up
to you! I used a simple stripe & I used the purl or reverse
side of the knit as the right side.
Knit a piece of knit that is
at least 2" bigger than the glass of the frame in
all direction. You don't have to make a swatch if you know
about what gauge you will get with the yarn & stitch.
Just make sure that it will be big enough. If you are in
doubt, add 30 needles & 50 rows. Better safe than sorry!
Steam the knit & let it
dry before cutting.
Cutting the knit
You will need to cut the knit the same size as the glass
in the frame. The easiest method is to put the glass on top
of the knit. Make sure your knit is centered or positioned
the way you want it to be. Take a cutting wheel on all sides.
This way you don't have to measure.
Putting it all together
You will need to tack the picture
to the knit mat. Most hobby or craft stores will have linen
tape or something that will be safe for your picture.
Place the glass in the frame,
them put the knit with the picture on it on top of the
glass. Check to be sure it's positioned correctly before
putting the rest of the frame together.
If you want to get crazy
with this idea.... Knit in words or names. Add dates
for important events.
