Choose a yarn & lace pattern.  Any yarn will work.  For the lace pattern, choose something with vertical eyelet lines.  This is where the cord will be threaded.  If you wish to make the shade without lace, make eyelets for the cording following the pattern.

Make a swatch to get a stitch gauge.  You need the stitch gauge in order to make the shade fit your window.

This shade fits inside the window frame.  Measure the desired length & width for the shade inside the window frame.  Add 4” to the width.  The shade will easily fit on a small spring rod.

Length _______ X Rows (per inch) _______ = _______ Total Rows below rod.
Width _______ X Stitches (per inch) _______ = _______ Total Stitches.

You will need to position your lace pattern so that the vertical eyelet rows are at each edge & in the center.  The cord to draw the shade will be threaded through these eyelets.  If you lace pattern doesn’t work, you can manually select the needles to be transferred.  Select the middle needle & the 3rd needle from each edge.

Tie a cord 2 ½ times the length of the shade to the bottom eyelets for lacing, 1 on each edge & one in the center.  Tie the cord on the back.  Thread the cord up the vertical eyelets.  End with the cord on the back.

Put the spring rod through the top eyelet row.  Put the rod in place.  Pull the cords to draw the shade.  Attach beads or tassels to the cords.  You will need to buy something to wrap the cords around to keep the shade drawn.  You can find options at most home stores.
