- E Wrap Cast On
E
wrap cast is the most common cast on. For
patterns that only state "cast on" they normally
are referring to an e wrap cast on.
These pictures show how to e wrap cast
on EON (every other needle), but the technique is the
same for e wrap casting on every needle. By doing EON,
it will be easier to see the technique.
1.
Use a clothes pin to hold the yarn at the start. This
will keep both hands free to make the cast on.
 |
For Bond machines, hang the weighted
hem before proceeding to step 2. |
2.
The e wrap cast on starts on the left side. Pull out the number of needles required
for your pattern. Place the yarn in between the
needle on the far left & the next needle to the
right.
3.
With your right hand, take the yarn above the needles
and wrap it
over (going left) the
needle on the far left. Then wrap it under the
same needle. It's like making a cursive letter
e.
4.
Take the yarn under the 2nd needle from the left
and up in between
the 2nd & 3rd needle
from the left. This is it. You just repeat
these steps working your way to the right.

5.
Hold the yarn under the needles with your left thumb. This
will prevent the wraps from coming off the needles
as you proceed to the next
needle.
.
6.
Don't make the cast on too tight. The
needles shouldn't be pulled close together. If
you have problems taking the carriage across the cast
on, you have made the cast on too tight.
You also don't want the cast on to be
too loose as this will make for a sloppy cast on.
7. After the 1st row is knit, hang a
cast on comb.
