She will also be teaching machine knitting classes.

Machine Knitting Classes - Lecture

Simple Shrugs - 1 class period
Shrugs are the new poncho. Learn how to make a variety types of shrugs using different stitch techniques. See how shrugs are constructed. Learn how to make adjustments when there are not enough needles on the machine for the required piece, and which types of stitches get wider stitch gauges. This is for machine knitting.

Twisted Knits - 1 class period
Learn how to twist your knits into interesting textures. Learn the basic guidelines for making 1/2 twists & full twists. Learn how to create textures, geometric & motif designs with twists. Plus see how else you can twist the knit for some interesting trims. Techniques work on all types & gauges of machines.

Short Rowing Simplified - 1 class period
Short rowing is one of the hardest techniques to master in machine knitting. Learn how to make short rows for increasing & decreasing stitches. Learn the different wrap methods for short rowing, see how short rowing improves the shaping of knits, and learn more uses for short rowing. Techniques work on all types & gauges of machines.

Hand Knitting Classes - Hands On
All prep work must be completed before attending the class.

1/2 Twists are Better Than Cables - 1 class period
Twists are much easier to make than cables, and half twists allow you to make some interesting texture motifs. Half twists can be made without a cable needle so the knitting is faster. Learn how to make a half twist in class, and make a few different stitch patterns using half twists. As long as you know how to knit & purl, you can take this class.

MATERIALS:
2 worsted weight yarns (it’s best to work with light to medium colors)
1 pair of needles appropriate for yarn like size 7 or 8 US
1 cable needle (to show how to do it with & without)

PREP: To make the class go faster, start each of the 2 swatches before the class.
Swatch #1, Cast on 14 stitches. Purl 1 row. Knit 1 row. Purl 1 row.
Swatch #2, Cast on 24 stitches. Purl 1 row. Knit 1 row. Purl 1 row.

Better Beading - 1 class period
Learn the many techniques for adding beads to your knitting including some of Tricia’s original beading techniques. Beads can be added almost anywhere on the knit including the cast on & bind off edges. See how beads can make any garment more special, and the beads don’t have to be expensive. As long as you know how to knit & purl, you can take this class.

MATERIALS:
2 worsted weight yarns (it’s best to work with light to medium colors)
1 pair of needles appropriate for yarn like size 7 or 8 US
Several beads that work with yarn. Pony beads are the best for practicing.

PREP: There is no prep work for this class.

Cast On / Bind Off Madness - 1 class period
There is more than 1 way to cast on or bind off. In fact there are MANY. Learn how to make a variety of cast on and bind off techniques like the provisional cast on, channel island cast on or how to bind off in a stitch pattern. These are just a few that we will cover in the class. The basic long tail cast on & bind off will not be taught in the class. As long as you know how to knit & purl, you can take this class.

MATERIALS:
6 worsted weight yarns (it’s best to work with light to medium colors)
* There are 6 swatches total for the class. We will do the bind off swatches first in class.
1 pair of needles appropriate for yarn like size 7 or 8 US
1 crochet hook or latch tool appropriate for yarn

PREP: To make the class go faster, start each of the 3 swatches before the class.
Swatch #1, Cast on 16 stitches. Repeat * K2, P2* for each row until piece measures about 2” in length.
Swatch #2, Cast on 16 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures about 2” in length.
Swatch #3, Cast on 16 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures about 2” in length.

Finishing for Hand & Machine Knitters - Hands On

Finishing Basics - 1 class period
Learn how to properly weave in yarn ends into seams or when there isn't a seam. Learn how to sew stripes and purl side fabrics. See the best way to attach sleeve caps to armholes. It will be required to knit a few swatches before the class. See below instructions. Also be sure to bring a seaming needle with the swatches.

CO 40 st in Color A. K 10 R.
K 1 R in Color B.
Change to Color A. K 20 R.
Set carriage to hold or short row.
Place 20 nd opposite side of carriage in HP.
K 1 R on 20 nd next to carriage.
Cut yarn. Place carriage on side with 20 nd in WP.
Push 20 nd opposite side of carriage in HP to FWP.
Pull 20 nd on carriage side in WP to HP.
K 1 R on nd in FWP in Color B.
Set carriage to plain knitting.
K 20 R in Color A.
BO.

FINISHING BASICS SWATCH #2
CO 40 st in Color A. *** K 10 R in Color A. K 2 R in Color B. ***
Repeat from *** to *** 4 more times (5 times total).
K 10 R in Color A.
BO.

FINISHING BASICS SWATCH #3
CO 40 st in Color A. K 20 R.
Knit a small fairisle design in Color B. Something that is about 20 rows or more.
K 20 R in Color A.

Integrating Stitches with Sweaters - 1 class period
Integrating stitch patterns with shape files are great for interactive knitting, but can also benefit regular knitting. By integrating the stitch pattern, it’s so easy to match stripes or other stitch patterns like from the front to a sleeve. Learn how easy it is to integrate.

How'd I ever Knit without Interactive Knitting - 1 class period
See how interactive knitting can make knitting so much easier. I use it for almost all of my knitting these days. Learn how to knit a stitch pattern in the interactive knitting mode, a sweater shape, and how to knit sweater shaped with an integrated stitch pattern. Learn about the different options for hearing & seeing the instructions.

Simple Graphic Conversions - 1 class period
Converting a graphic to a stitch pattern doesn't have to be scary. Learn the best options for saving graphics for graphic conversion. We will convert a few line drawings in class to stitch patterns. Plus learn how to reduce the colors in Paint Shop Pro to make the conversion easier & better looking.

Designing Stitch Patterns - 1 class period
Learn some basic rules & guidelines for designing stitch patterns. See how DAK makes it easy to convert fairisles into tuck stitches or thread lace. We will cover all types of stitches including textures.
